There are some really good places in South Puget Sound to paddle. My favorite is at the Nisqually research center. It has a great launch site. High tide is the best time, that way you can paddle up McCallister creek. The wind is blocked by a high ridge on the south side. I paddled Half Moon Bay at Westport today, and tandem surfed with my seven year old. Percival Landing in Olympia is also a good choice, I paddled there two days ago. Olympia has some very easy access areas.

Cheers,

Craig

What about north of Seattle? I live up in Everett, WA and have paddled most of this area. Obviously there won't be many waves. However, I've heard and read articles that there are sometimes waves up near Bellingham. Would you have any input as to some locations?

Joe,

I haven't been SUP North past Boston Harbor. I can be at the coast in one hour and fifteen so usually go there. I would like to do a road trip up that way.

Cheers, Craig

I live in Indianola, near Poulsbo.......looking forward to getting my first "trial" SUP ( Sevylor Samoa) and
launching at Miller Bay or in Apple Tree Cove in the next few days.

A good source of paddling locations is the Mountaineers book, 'Paddling Puget Sound', and a few other related books by the same publisher. It's designed for kayakers, but sorta the same eh? http://www.mountaineersbooks.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=1040

Also check out Washington Water Trails, (wwta.org), for more trips and human powered boat/board only camping locations in the Sound. Joel Roger's Book, 'Watertrails' by Sasquatch Books, covers the watertrail with great photos, history, and other info, http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Watertrail/Joel-W-Rogers/e/9781570...

There are great waves in Puget Sound if you know where to look, usually from freighters, tugs, ferries, large yachts, or high wind days (autumn's coming). For Everett, check around the Mukilteo ferry. For Indianola, i've seen it break at that point north of the Kingston ferry dock. The South sound is great for paddling - Hope Island, Squaxin, the fast currents of Hammersely Inlet, etc.

Give me a holler if you need more local paddling spots. Been doing it on a sea kayak for years.

cheers

I agree, South Sound has plenty of great SUP spots. Have you tried Woodard Bay?
