Eric Anderson Day 2

Okay, so I'm still a newbie at this. Last night was day 2 after cracking open my not so new (bought used from Real Kiteboarding) Jimmy Lewis 11'. I hit the Aquatic Park in San Francisco for some flatwater cruising before sunset. Conditions were ideal...warm air, light winds and fairly flat water - rare afternoon conditions in the Bay - and my board was slipping through the water like it was warm butter. The hook is sinking deeper. So it is only day 2 and I already feel like an ambassador for th… Continue

Michael Ashley All in or all out

When you are out in the line-up and you see a wave coming, you make a choice: You're either all in or all out. If you're just half in, you end up doing a lot of scratching for waves that you never get. If you're going to paddle for a wave, why not paddle like you really want to catch it? Why not commit completely? If you didn't really want to catch the wave, get out of the way. This morning I surfed with some buddies in fun waves that just wanted to roll over the reef, and seemed to hold out f… Continue

John Ashley Stand up paddlesurf lesson- Cruising the Bay

Had a great day of paddlesurfing today! Started off with an early morning surf session on the Northside of the pier with Kiwi, Spork and Kraig Surplus. Kiwi got the wedge of the day- wish I had my camera ready for that one- just perfectly slotted on his 10' Stu K. I had a front row seat- nice job Kiwi! Go check out some photos of that session on www.paddlesurf.net Taught a stand up paddle surf lesson on the bay with my latest student Kristine M.. Paddle surfing is fun for so many reasons- I re… Continue

Eric Anderson Crack of dawn

Maybe not dawn, but 6:00AM still feels early. This is the first chance I have had to get out with the new stick. Given that my accumulated experience is all of about 3 total hours of board time in Oahu last month, I figure I better go the safe route and get out on some flat water. Luckily we have a spot in SF called the Aquatic Park, which is really less impressive than it sounds. It's basically a pier and a partial sea wall that shelters an area where folks can swim and frolic without being wor… Continue

Michael Ashley Growing a community

So far we have had a great response to the stand up community here at iPaddleSurf.com and I'm stoked to see everyone posting pictures, some events and comments. I've received a lot of emails about the site and people are stoked. Todd Bradley over at C4 Waterman offered to help with some content and I'm open to suggestions about other ways we can make the site better. (Todd, I hope you'll come join us over here. We'd like you to be part of the community.)… Continue

Eric Anderson Oooh!

Got my board today. Didn't realize the adventure would start long before I hit the water. -Our mailroom guy Fred called: "Eric, umm, a large packaged just arrived for you." -Excellent, must be my new board: "Can you hold it until the end of the day? I'll grab it on my way out." -Fred: "Actually, it is too big for the freight elevator. The truck driver is down on the street and wants you to come get it." I work in a 40+ floor high rise in downtown SF...we have a BIG freight elevator, so I am in… Continue
